Description of flag:
The ratio of flag is 3:5. It is a white flag with horizontal red stripes at the upper and lower edge. The ratio between the stripes is 1:3:1. In the white stripe is the coat of arms shifted to the hoist.
Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per pale. The dexter side shows a red key in a silver (=white) field. The sinister side shows a black cross in a silver (=white) field superimposed by a red rose with yellow leaves.
Meaning:
The key is symbolizing Soest city. The sinister side is the coat of arms of the dissolved county of Lippstadt. The cross is turning out the fact, that the archbishops of Köln ruled a great part of the county's territory. The rose is the symbol of the counts of Lippe, who founded Lippstadt.
The flag was authorized together with the new coat of arms on 26 May 1976 by Regierungspräsident Arnsberg.

Meaning:
The key is symbolizing the city of Soest. The cross is turning out the fact, that the archbishops of Cologne ruled a great part of the counties territory. You can see an image of this coat of arms in: Stadler 1972, p.84
