Dekanovec is located 10-15 km north-east of Čakovec. The municipality was formed in 1997 by secesion from Domašinec.

Flag of Dekanovec

The symbols of Dekanovec were adopted in 2003, as reported in the local newspapers Međimurske novine (Općina Dekanovec - Ostavština Florijana Andrašeca osnova za izradu grba i zastave, 5 March 2003; Općina Dekanovec - Dobili grb i zastavu, 16 April 2003; Općina Dekanovec - Tko ce sanirati oštecenu crkvenu ogradu?, 23 April 2003).

The flag is prescribed by Decision Odluka o zastavi Općine Dekanovec, adopted on 7 April 2003 by the Municipality Assembly and published in the County official gazette Službeni glanisk Međimurske županije, No. 2.
Decision Odluka o izmjenama i dopunama Odluke o zastavi Općine Dekanovec, adopted on 29 March 2004 by the Municipality Assembly and published in the Službeni glanisk Međimurske županije, No. 5, changes the wording of the description of the flag as well as some penal prescriptions.
It is not clear why there is a separate Decision on flag, since it is clear from the newspapers that the coat of arms and the flag were adopted simultaneously. Possibly the original Decision on the coat of arms, adopted earlier, did not include anything on flag, or the flag was defined differently, so this Decision rectifies it according to requirements from the Ministry. Oddly enough, the Decision does not mention any previous Decision on the coat of arms.

The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka.

The flag is in proportions 1:2, blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.

The coat of arms is "Azure a clarinet proper and a feather argent in saltire".
This refers to Florian Andrijašec, the most famous person from Dekanovec, a music teacher and the gatherer of the folk music in the region.

The ceremonial flag is blue with the coat of arms in the middle, the name of the municipality above and floral ornament below ending with three tails with tassels.
