Posedarjea is located 20 km due east of Zadar, on the coast of the Novigrad Sea, a large bay entering the mainland from the north with a tight gorge at Maslenica. It has 3,500 inhabitants, about 1,300 in the small town of the same name.
Among the other settlements is Islam Latinski ("Latin Islam"), while neighboring Islam Grčki ("Greek Islam") belongs today to the town of Benkovac. The two "Islams" were rebuilt as a new settlement after the Turks had conquered it and received name "Seed Islam" (the Bulwark of Islam), being the westernmost place where the Turkish rule got in these areas. After the area was liberated from Turks, the part of the very depopulated village was settled by Catholics (mostly Vlahs), and the other part was given to an orthodox noble family (Janković) who setlled there some of their own men. Therefore the two villages got those unusual names.

The symbols of Posedarje were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka.
The flag (photo, 28 November 2008) is in proportions 1:2, dark blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.
