It is fairily typical portuguese municipal flag,
with the coat of arms centered on white and
purple quarterly (town rank) background.

The arms
are Gules on a three-arch bridge Argent masoned Sable issuant from a
campaign wavy wavy Azure and Argent a castle Argent masoned Sable open and
litten Gules charged in its main tower with an escutcheon Azure five
plates Argent between two bunches of grapes Purpure leaved Or and in chief
dexter a moon Argent and in chief sinister a sun Or. Mural crown argent
with four visible towers (town rank) and white
scroll reading in black upper case letters "Valença".

Valença (a.k.a. Valença do Minho)municipality had 14 187
