The "S.I.A.L." source which Eduardo Panizo mentions in many of his images of Barcelona province municipal flags. Is the Sistema d'Informació d'Administració Local (local administrations' information system), an information service of the Catalan regional government.
Eduardo Panizo also points out that he uses very clear shades of blue in his vector files in order for these to appear printed properly on paper. This results in too clear shades of blue when exported to GIF format. So the shades of blue in all the GIFs which I exported from Eduardo Panizo's vector files should be corrected to a darker shade.

Fluvià 2001 is available online as a Powerpoint file at the SIAL website, containing the first 200 Catalan municipalities which have had both their coat of arms and their flag officially approved by the Catalan government, with the heraldic description of the arms and a short explanation about their meaning, and also the vexillological description of the flag.

There are 950 municipalities in Catalonia, but only 250 have at the present an officially approved flag by the Autonomous Government. Other 100 or more use a traditional flag, in existence for about a century. These flags have not been approved or lack some requisite that the law demands from them. There is a great variety in sizes among the Catalan municipalities, from 100 inhabitants to several thousands. The vast majority that possess an approved flag are small and of minor relevance. The big cities like Mataró, Sabadell, Terrassa, Sant Boi, Reus etc., do not commonly have an officially approved flag (although they have an unofficial one). The four provincial capitals have flags, but I am not sure if they have been officially approved.

Much more statistical information in Catalan, Spanish and English can be found about each municipality at the official website of the Statistics Institute of Catalonia (Idescat). Idescat use 'county' as translation for comarca, so these pages follow this criterion.
