The flags of Japanese Royalty incorporate the Imperial arms, namely the sixteen petal chrysanthemum mon. Aside from its golden color, the flags utilize the national colors of red and white.

The Emperor Showa (Hirohito) was made regent in 1921 when his father the Emperor Taisho (I believe, anyway the real name of the father of Hirohito was Yoshihito, as you know each Emperor chooses a reign-name, which applies to the reign of the Emperor and then to the Emperor himself after his death) went mad; Hirohito then succeeded to the throne on December 25, 1926. This is the last instance of a regency in Japan.
