Description of the flag

Moerbeke-Waas (6,000 inhabitants) is located in the arrondissement of Ghent.

The flag is: Vert, inescutcheon Argent, two crossed spades Argent and Gules, and a turnip Argent and Vert. Proportions are 2:3.

This is a banner of the municipal arms, described as follows:

"The arms were granted in 1817 and confirmed on May 13, 1842. The arms are based on the only known seal of the local council, dating from the 18th century. The seal showed two spades, whose origin is not known, and the beet of the Waasland region."

The flag was adopted on 3 December 1984.
