Description of the flag

Kortrijk (76,000 inhabitants) is the capital city of the arrondissement of Kortrijk.

The flag is: Argent, scalloped Gules, a chevron Gules. Proportions are 2:3.

The flag is derived from the municipal arms, described as follows:

"The Kortrijk arms were adopted 7 July 1987, and refers to the family coat of arms of the XIIth-century burgraves of Kortrijk. Its heraldic description is:

"In zilver een keper en een uitgeschulpte zoom van keel. Het schild getopt met een stedekroon met 5 torens van zilver en gehouden door twee wildemannen van vleeskleur, omgord en gekroond met eikebladeren van sinopel en steunend op een knots van natuurlijke kleur"

That is:

Argent a chevron scalloped Gules. The shield sommé with a municipal crown with 5 turrets Argent, held by two wild men, girded and crowned with oakleaves Vert and leaning on a club naturel.

The flag was also adopted on 7 July 1987.
