The tricolor flag of the municipality was instituted by law of 7 February 1977. The law established that:

Art. 1 - The municipal flag of Amparo is hereby instituted, being designed by Lauro Ribeiro Escobar of the State Council of Honors and Merit, and is described thus: Rectangular red field with a white triangle based at the hoist, charged with a blue triangle surcharged with a white triangle, and thereon the coat of arms instituted by law no. 166 of 20 August 1929 and reestablished by law no. 23 of 4 December 1948, without the supporters or scroll.

Art. 2 - The flag thus instituted has 14 units of hoist by 20 units of fly; the white triangle placed on the field has a base coinciding with the hoist and 18.5 units of altitude [i.e., length toward the fly--trans.]; the blue triangle with which it is charged has the same base with an altitude of 13 units; the white triangle with which that is surcharged also has the same base and an altitude of 10 units; and the coat of arms is five units high.

Art. 3 - The municipal flag of Amparo has the following interpretation:
