About the Flag of Barretos

If you go to, click on cidades, then click on Barretos, then click on bandeira, you can find the following description and explanation of the flag, which was designed by Luís Antônio Furlan and adopted by municipal law no. 1393 of 20 August 1974. The flag has the same proportions as the national flag, with two vertical stripes, green and yellow, occupying the hoist third of the field, the other two thirds being red. In the middle of the green and yellow stripes is a white circle with a red silhouette of the State of São Paulo, on which a white five pointed star marks the geographic position of the municipality of Barretos. The colors combine green and yellow from the Brazilian flag with red and white from the São Paulo flag. These colors are said to symbolize Barretos within São Paulo and the latter within Brazil. Red is further said to stand for struggle, war, virtue, and greatness, and green for pastoral wealth and agriculture.
