Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry

These images come from the home page of Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry.

Canadian regiments have a Queen's Colour and a Regimental Colour. Prior to the adoption of the current Canadian flag, the Queen's Colour was the Union Jack, defaced with the regimental badge, as in the British Army.

The current pattern (illustrated) is the National Flag, defaced with the regimental badge. The Regimental Colour has the badge in the center, surrounded by a wreath and scroll bearing the PPCLI's Battle Honours.

Each of the PPCLI's three battalions has its own set of Colours, identical to the set maintained at Regimental Headquarters except for the addition of battalion numerals (I, II, III). Additionally, the 2nd Battalion's Colours carry the streamer of the U.S. Presidential Unit Citation, earned during the Korean War. It is the only Canadian military unit to bear this honour.

I've also attached a picture of the PPCLI's cap badge, which is very similar to the badge carried on the Colours.

Queen's Colours

These two images illustrate the Queens's Color of Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry as it was before and after the adoption of the current Canadian national flag. The pre-1965 pattern was the same in most respects as the Queen's Colours of British infantry regiments. Since 1965, the current Canadian flag, defaced with the regimental badge, has served as the Queen's Colour. The Regimental Colour was unaffected by the 1965 flag change; it is dark blue with gold/scarlet fringe and bears the full regimental badge within a wreath which carries the Princess Pats' twenty-two battle honors. Proportions are the same as for the Queen's Colour.
