The youth organization 'Mouvement des Clubs 4-H du Quebec' was founded in 1942 by the Quebec Forestry Association (Association Forestiere Quebecoise), then presided by Jules-Aime Breton. Its main goal was, and still is, educating people to protection and conservation of natural resources. The organization is made of local clubs, which include at least 15 young people between 6 and 18 year old. The first club was created on 4 August 1942 in Val-Brillant (Matapedia valley). The first congress of the movement took place on 12-13 August 1943 in Rimouski, with 17 clubs. The movement included 79 clubs in 1992.
The ideals of the movement explain the 4-H name:
- Honour in the actions
- Honesty in the means
- Skillfulness (French, Habilete), in work
- Humanity in behaviour.
The motto of the movement is '4-H, Gardiens des ressources naturelles' ('4-H, Guardians of the natural resources')
The arms of the movement are made of the number 4 and letter H inscribed in a disk placed in the middle of a sugar maple leaf.
The colours of the movement are:
The flag of the movement is a yellow field with a green border all over, and the arms in green shifted to the hoist (at least according to the image, since there is no verbose description of the flag)
There is a salute to the flag:
'Salut au drapeau
Symbole de notre mouvement.
Sous tes couleurs,
Nous voulons remplir fierement
Notre mission de gardiens des ressources naturelles
Et mieux srvir notre patelin
Et le Canada tout entier.
A tout ce que tu representes :
Notre ideal 4-H,
Nos dirigeants et nos amis 4-H,
La nature ce don de Dieu,
Nous jurons loyaute et respect.
C'est nous les 4-H...'
'Salute to the flag
Symbol of our movement.
Under your colours,
We shall proudly meet our commitments
Of guardians of the natural resources
And better serve our village,
And the whole of Canada.
To everything you stand for:
Our 4-H ideals,
Our 4-H leaders and friends,
Nature, this godsend,
We pledge loyalty and respect.
We are the 4-H,...'
