Hukvaldy is closely associated with the Czech composer Leoš Janáček, who was born here 3 July 1854, hence the lyre on the flag. The flag was adopted 15 Jul 1993.

The fox is a reference to Janáček's opera "Příhody Lišky Bystroušky", the Cunning Little Vixen.
