Coat of Arms

[Municipality of Güimar (Tenerife Island, Santa Cruz de Tenerife Province, Canary Islands, Spain)]

The shield is divided per bend. Within the white (red-edged) bend are two arms shaking hands, probably representing peace between the Castilians and the Guanches. For the arm coming from dexter chief is in full black armour and that one coming from sinister base is bare. The bend is superimposing a cut off coat of arms of Castille and Leon (version divided per pale) in the sinister chief and a brown mountain topped by white snow in a blue sea under a dark blue sky with a white cloud in the dexter base. The mountain is probably the Pico del Teide. The shield has a green border with eight lying golden anchors. Under the shield is a garland and the shield is topped by a coronet. Güimar was the name of an ancient Guanche mini-kingdom.

The other elements also refer to this event: The coat of arms was established per decree by the Ministerio de la Gobernación on 2 February 1928.
