The Société d'Armement E. Frisch & Cie was founded in 1893. The original purpose of the company was the importation of Scandinavian wood via the Baltic Sea. Cargo lines to Tunisia and the Black Sea were opened a few years later.
The not so good situation of the company was improved in 1911 with the purchase of a new liner, SS Jeanne-Marie, which blew up on a mine off Serk (Channel Islands) in 1918.
The economical crisis of the late 1920s strongly affected the company, which sold its last ships to the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique in 1934.
