The coat of arms of the city of Krk is of oval shape with an owl standing on a green triple mount. The red ceremonial flag shown in Vikend is fairly simple, while some other sources show the coat of arms with olive and oak branches. The ordinarly city flag is probably red with the coat of arms in the middle. Adopted: around 1995 (?).

The city of Krk (It is pronounces quite like the English name Kirk. The Italian name of the city and the island is Veglia), with about 5000 inhabitants is the main settlement on the largest Adriatic island that bears the same name as the city. The island is near to the mainland, and so the city maintaned relatively dense population continually already since the time of Ancient Greeks. Today, the proximity of the Rijeka Airport (taht is on the island) and bridge connecting the island with the mainland insure the prosperity and trourism is the main economic branch.
The symbol of Krk originates also from the greek times, and wasused in heraldrized form as soon as heraldry reached the regions. Modern coat of arms was adopted around 1995, with a oval shield, azure an owl argent beacked and membered gules guardant and stantan on a triple mount issuant vert.
The flag is red with the coat of arms bordered yellow in the middle. There is also a Ceremonial Flag, red gonfalon with three tails, the middle one longer then the other two, all three ending in triangular fly, and with golden fringe along the entire lower edge. In the middle is the coat of arms bordered yellow and above it in two arches yellow inscription "GRAD KRK".
The coat of arms is also used in variation that includes oak and olive branches beneath the shield.

The decision issued in the official gazette only confirms what we already know. The decision was adopted on 25 April 1995: Odluka o grbu i zastavi Grada Krka, 25.04.1995, Slu~bene novine }upanije primorsko-goranske, br. 10/95, 22. svibnja 1995.
The Ceremonial Flag is also described. The "normal" flag is described without mentioning the yellow broder around the Coat of Arms, but according to all flags I have seen in Krk in 2002 and 2003, the yellow border is always there.
I may add that the ceremonial flag is also hoisted on a monumental flag mast on the main squre in the old city. Or, better to say, it is apparently hoisted only during the hig touristic season, since I have seen it there in July 2002 and 2003, but not in May this year.
