Flagdescription: Flechtskean dield yn grien en giel, yn it grien in wite skieppekop fan 'e side sjoen.
That is: Diagonally divided from hoist-bottom to fly-top green and yellow; in green a white sheep's head facing the hoist.
According to the book "de miene doarpsgrûnen fan Eastergoa" of Mr. D.J. Cuipers the village name can best be explained as sheep's-cage. That is why a sheep's head has been taken on flag and arms. Jistrum was an agricultural village with a lot of wheat-cultivation. Oats were also grown, but only for fodder.
In the flag the separation is shown between high and low lying areas of the village: the low meadows along the Burgumermar and the high lying agricultural grounds on the Ies.
Jistrum (Dutch: Eestrum) has c. 800 inhabitants and a church dating from 1230.
