It is a quite typical portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centered on a background gyronny (meaning city rank) of purple and white. The coat of arms is or, a rose gules between two ogival escuteons azure, charged with 11 bezants argent in 3+2+3+2+1, all entangled in two vines, one fruited or and the other purple, both leaved vert. Mural crown argent with five visible towers (city rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "CIDADE DO CARTAXO".
