Presentation of Hodoš

The municipality of Hodoš was formed in 1998 by division of the municipality of Hodoš-Šalovci, which had itself seceded from Murska Sobota in 1995. Hodoš is located in the Pomurska region, that is the "region by the river Mura", in the north-eastern part of Slovenia on the border with Hungary. The municipality has a large Hungarian population, and Hungarian language and flag are in official use there.

Municipal flag of Hodoš

The flag and arms of Hodoš are prescribed by decision Odlok o istovestnostih simbolih Občine Hodoš, adopted on 21 June 2001, and published in the official Slovene gazette Uradni list Republike Slovenije, 59/2001.

The symbols were designed by Valt Jurečič of Heraldika d.o.o. and Heraldica Slovenica, who kindly provided drawings from which the images shown on this page were made.

The flag is rectangular, in proportion 2:5. The flag is horizontally divided in five white-green stripes, with a square green field at hoist containing the halberd from the coat of arms.

Coat of arms of Hodoš

[Coat of arms]by Željko Heimer

The coat of arms of Hodoš can be blazoned as:

Per pale azure and vert by a halberd argent and in base per chevron embowed gules fimbriated of the third three oak leaves or and overall a rose silver bordered golden with a emanating heart gules ensigned a cross sable.

The aforementioned decision clearly states that the cross should be Latin, but the accompanying image, just as well as the drawings provided by Valt all have a Greek cross.
