Kráľovský Chlmec is in the southeast corner of Slovakia, close to the Ukrainian and Hungarian borders. It is in the Eastern part of the Carpathian Mountains where vine has been grown for more than 1700 years.

Kráľovský Chlmec (Hungarian: Királyhelmec has 7963 inhabitants (80,4% Hungarian; 1990 census). The town was in Zemplén (in Slovakian Zemplín) County of Hungary till 1919/1920 (Czechoslovakian occupation). 1920-1938 Czechoslovakian, 1938-1944 Hungarian (after the Decision of Vienna). The Treaty of Paris (1947) reallocated it to Czechoslovakia.
The flag has the Hungarian flag colours: red-white-green
